The Windrush Thinking Space provides an open and confidential therapeutic gathering where individuals connected to the Windrush generation and their descendants can explore their feelings, share experiences, and deepen their self-understanding. Participants are encouraged to discuss both challenging issues and positive experiences that impact their lives and mental well-being.

At our Thinking Space, we support each other by drawing on our own experiences to offer ideas and share local resources that may assist in addressing these issues. It’s a place where you will be heard, understood, and have the opportunity to build positive relationships.

The Thinking Space model originated in the favelas of Brazil, where it was recognized that community members facing various challenges couldn’t access traditional therapeutic support. Bringing support directly to the community revealed that individuals had developed valuable knowledge through their life experiences, which could be shared to reduce stress and enhance the well-being of others.

This model was introduced to the Claudia Jones Organisation by Frank Lowe, a Psychotherapist and former Head of Social Work at the Tavistock and Portman Mental Health Trust, along with our former Chair, Janet Campbell. Our Thinking Space facilitators have undergone specialized training through the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust to effectively guide and support meaningful discussions in a safe environment.
